Learning Beyond Books: A Senior Class on Poetry and Culture

On October 18, 2024, we had the privilege of attending a demonstration class by our seniors, Anusha and Gopika, as part of their teacher training. The session was both insightful and inspiring, showcasing their teaching skills and innovative approaches to engaging students.

Anusha’s Class: Exploring 'From a Railway Carriage'

Anusha introduced us to Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem, From a Railway Carriage. Through vivid imagery and rhythmic lines, the poem captures the speed and excitement of a train journey. Anusha’s interactive teaching approach included thought-provoking questions and a focus on the auditory experience of the poem’s rhythm, bringing the verses to life. Her use of visual aids and sound effects further enhanced our understanding and appreciation of the poem.

Gopika’s Class: Discovering 'The Saga of Tiffin Carriers'

Gopika’s session took us on a cultural and historical journey with the travel article, 'The Saga of Tiffin Carriers'. She delved into the fascinating world of Mumbai’s dabbawalas, their extraordinary efficiency, and their role in the city’s daily life. Gopika’s storytelling skills, combined with real-life examples and engaging visuals, captivated us. Her class highlighted the significance of teamwork and dedication, leaving us inspired by the dabbawalas' legacy.
